FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS

According to the specific annual priority of the Europe for Citizens Programme, the EUFREE project marked the history of the EU from the Schuman Declaration to the present day, as well as the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights (2000).

The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union brings together the most important personal freedoms and rights enjoyed by EU citizens into one legally binding document. The project partners were very interested in analyzing the limitations and needs of its implementation as fundamental rights for all citizens living in Europe, the EU or outside it.

February 2022 - Starting from the Charter of European Citizens’ Fundamental Rights, the Scientific Committee of the project CHIARA BIANCHIZZA and PAOLO GIANGASPERO identified a list of main topics of interest

March 2022 - Project partners selected 3 topics to concentrate the debate on, namely:

  • Education

  • Freedom of movement and residence AND right of asylum

  • Free expression of culture/religion/tradition/language

20 April 2022 - a public conference was held in Sarajevo. The topic of the conference was “From Schuman’s Declaration to the Charter of Fundamental Rights. A journey through the construction of European citizenship”

21 April 2022, a workshop was organized as a follow up to the conference and public debate

  • The topics selected were debated in working groups

  • The guiding questions for debate were:

  • What are the main issues you see in the actual implementation of “theme of the table”?

  • How could these obstacles be overcome?

  • What are the already existing resources that is possible to capitalize on?

13 Nov 2022 - workshop to detail the final document “EUROPE WE WISH” on implementation of the Charter of Fundamental Rights comparing our suggestions with the final results of the Conference on the Future of Europe
